Tamuda, the ancient city

← Back to history

Tamuda was an Amazigh city founded in the 3rd century BC, later becoming a Roman military camp. Located in the Martil river valley, it represents one of the oldest traces of urban civilization in northern Morocco. Its remains — walls, mosaics, ceramic objects — reveal an organized and prosperous society connected to Mediterranean trade routes. The Roman destruction and transformation into a military castrum testify to the strategic importance of this region.
